It’s the first Monday in June, and we’re thrilled to spotlight Firefighter Hanna Groh for this month’s #MeetUsMonthly feature. Groh has been with the Clayton Fire Department for about five months and is fully embracing her role.
As a newcomer to the fire service, Groh is focused on training and honing her skills while also supporting her crew. “My main role is really about learning every day and being there for the team,” she says.
Groh was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and has lived in North Carolina for a little over three years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and psychology, which she pursued while playing soccer in college. Her stepdad, a firefighter with over 30 years of experience in Apex, inspired her to explore the fire service. “He’s played a huge part in my life for the last 10 years,” Groh shares. “Once I moved out here and spent more time with him, I realized this is what I want to do. I’ve loved every second of it.”
Joining the Clayton Fire Department allows Groh to be part of a growing community. “I’m excited to be here now and immerse myself in it before it changes even more. I love the small-town feel and can’t wait to see how it evolves in the next 10 years.”
Outside of work, Groh spends most of her time with her four dogs: Cash, an Australian shepherd; George, a nearly two-year-old great Dane; and Colton and Ava, two rescues of unknown breeds. She also enjoys reading - particularly true crime and psychology books - doing puzzles, and spending time with friends and family.
We’re proud to have Groh as part of our team and can’t wait to see her continue to grow with the Clayton Fire Department.
