Clayton First Responders Make Sure Every Ride Is Safer for Kids

Home Posted on September 08, 2025

WHAT: Child Safety Seat Clinic

WHEN: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, September 20

WHERE: (Walmart) 805 Town Centre Blvd. Clayton, NC 27520

WHO: Free and open to the public

The Clayton Fire Department, Clayton Police Department, and Safe Kids Johnston County are teaming up to host a Child Safety Seat Clinic from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., Saturday, September 20 at Walmart (805 Town Centre Boulevard). Parents and caregivers can stop by for a free child safety seat check and learn how to be sure their child is riding as safely as possible.

Trained technicians will be on-site to guide families through each step of the process. Rather than simply installing the seat for them, the technicians will demonstrate the correct way to install it, helping parents and caregivers feel confident every time a child is buckled in. This hands-on guidance is essential. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly half of all car seats are used incorrectly, and proper installation can reduce the risk of injury by more than 50 percent.

This clinic also goes beyond child safety seats. A display vehicle will feature a digital thermometer comparing outdoor and in-car temperatures, a powerful reminder of how quickly heat can build inside a vehicle. Safe Kids Worldwide reports that a car’s interior can rise nearly 20 degrees in just 10 minutes, even when it doesn’t feel hot outside.

Families will receive safety materials and resources as well to take home, making it easy to keep these lessons top of mind. With local first responders and community partners working together, this event is all about helping parents and caregivers protect their most precious passengers.
